My control panel

well it took me 3 tries but i think i’ve stumbled upon one i like. The panel is made of HDF and the pinstriping is the commercial kind available at most auto store. The switches on the bottom (numbered 1 to 10) are momentary switches used to control the switch motors. the rest is pretty self explanatory. just wanted to show off a bit… it too kme nearly a month and a half to finally settle and built it right ( well make that, “finally make it right”)

questions and comments of course appreciated

Looks great dude. I know I had to use LEDs so that I could get a glance of the “state” of the switches from across the room if I was away from the panel. Do you plan to add them or not? I used all green LEDs for the mainline position, yellow for everything else.

Peter

No i dont really plan on using it because the shelf is only 18 inch deep and the panel is centrally located. beside the main line will have dwarves to indicate turnout position. I do plan on LED for the hidden staging yard though

How did you wire your LED’s up? I have a control panel for a 12 track yard that we want to put LED indicators on the switches we used on the panel are momentary contact.

RJ,

Sorry my response was misleading. My panel runs switch machines so wiring up LEDs is real easy. My N scale layout uses snap switches and I don’t have any LED indicators on that panel.

Peter

Ah, I see.

Personally, I don’t like the automotive striping if only because it’s too sticky. You really can’t get to lay down, then pick it up to straighten it, then lay it down again (or at least I wasn’t). You did a nice job getting that panel laid out.

At my club, I primer the MDF board, then spray paint it the line color (white, yellow, orange, etc.). After that dries, I lay out my lines with masking tape. I can get 1/4" tape at CarQuest, or one can get it direct from 3M. Then I spray the whole thing black (I use only regular Krylon…never mix brands or it may craze). After it drives, remove the masking tape, and there you have your board (and you never have to worry about the lines falling off). For labeling, I have one of those Brother P-Touch label makers.
