The murals are hand painted, I started with a few coats of pure white as a base (acrylics) and then I took a fine line permanant marker to draw the mountains and desert, sky and so on.
I really should post some pics of the other side of these, the scenes are the same on both Cabooses on one side there is a different desert scene on the other side but they match on each Caboose, I know it sounds confusing, 2 murals on 4 sides…LOL!
I had to custom cut a few brushes because I needed a sharp angle with only about 12 hairs on it for one and then about 5 hairs on another but on a stiff brush which I made by cutting a long haired brush short.
These are practise for the Native American Warrior box cars I’ve been wanting too do.
The scene would be from the High Desert around New Mexico area, I hope this answers some of the questions.
Of course I’m unconventional because I didn’t have anyone to tell me that I shouldn’t be doing certain things with my trains…LOL!
My signature says it all, my wife thinks I’m a little escentric but what can I say, I like to experiment with things, I do know I wouldn’t want to try this with N or Z scale thats for sure.
I have an F-7 style loco that I’m thinking of doing something really wild with but I’ll save that for another post down the road, the locomotive don’t run and I’d like to keep it on my layout as a form of advertising for the town.
I did the graffitti on the two box cars first so I could practise with my home made brushes before starting the caboose murals.
Thanks for the kind words, from long time modelers as yourselves this makes me feel good that I’m still progressing, I look forward to the day that I’m considered an old timer in this hobby.
