My first attempt at scratch building

This is my first attempt at scratch building, or building anything for that matter.
I’m sorry I cannot remember who it was that posted the picture of this building not to long ago. They said they drive by it every day, anyway someone had said “wouldn’t it be nice if someone made that for a layout?” well I’m trying to do that and here is some pictures please tell me what you think. [:)]

COOL!

Looking GREAT!!![yeah] Hard to believe this is your first attempt . Excellent work. Be sure & post more pics.

That is an excellent start. I can’t wait to see it completed. I believe KenLarsen posted that under his “Model Me!” topic.

trainchris, looks GREAT![:D] your first time at scratch building? WOW! cant wait to see what it looks like finished.

This is taking a long time to do!! Here is some more I have done. The roofers have finished, the windows are still not done but going well, and I have no idea where the painters are at right now.

Chris,

That looks GREAT!!! It looks like you cut everything (even the railing spindles) out of the same stock. (Not an easy thing to do well but you did.) Keep honing those skills, my friend. You just might just inspire me to try my first attempt at scratchbuilding.

Tom

As Scott indicated, that was me - and I think it looks positively FANTASTIC![bow][bow][bow]

Can’t wait to see the finished product, please keep us posted!

BTW when you’re done, I’ll bring some hardcopy photos to the owner, he’ll probably display them on his bulletin board.

I think it is out standing,good work.[^][:D][^][bow]

Very nice trainchris.

Is that bass wood that you’re using?

I am working on a train ferry (that’s what I call it), it’s quite a challenge for me especially the curves of the stern and the bow. There is a light a the end of the tunnel though. I post a pic soon.

THAT IS INCREDIBLE! You can’t be serious when you say that this is your first time scratchbuilding. You are pulling our legs, right?!?!

That does look extremely good. I wish more of my first attempts went half that good.

This has been made out of 2 pieces of bass wood from my LHS then cut down for what I need ( trim around windows, spindles, and so on). The two window sashes are made up of 18 individual parts for one opening. The shingles are out of 150 grit sandpaper cut with the X-acto knife into strips, the flat part of the roof ( not seen, gives more of a gravel look on top) has 100 grit sandpaper then colored with watered down india ink. I found that the craft paints from like Wal-mart when watered down takes the glue off and wipes the paper clean. This is 100% my first scratch anything not pulling any legs here. Well thats about all for now I have to get back to cutting, triming, and things like that. Again thank you all for taking time to reply. I’ll post more pics later.
