My First Attempt at Weathering (Updated: New Pics)

Well, this is my first true attempt at weathering. It is an Athearn RTR Ford C Box Van.
Now for the pictures:

As you can see, it is missing its mirrors. That is why I chose this particular truck to do this on. If you enlarge the pictures you’ll see the weathering better.

WOW that looks good …The box is dirty …grimey…looks awsome…if it were my box truck I would tone down the wheel hubs a bit and maby the cab so it dosent look so new…Just my thoughts…still looks killer

Yes that is exactly what I thought, I should’ve done the cab and wheels, and I’m going to later. Thanks for the advice and nice comments.

Good start. Like some of my stuff, better than expected but less than dreamed of. Looking at some of the artist types, I think weathering is as hard as anything. I finaly got a couple of good pieces decades ago, but I sure can’t reproduce that look now. Keep at it and keep posting. You will inspire us all.

The box is very lovely.

yeah looks good. I work in a wearhouse and see hundreds of trucks a day and that rear pic of the back of the truck is what I see every day and you weathering looks like the real thing.

Really nice job, the more you do the better you will get. I like the look that says “really worn out”. I just like really huge weathering that is one step away from being “condemned”.

the quality of the weathing job is top notch . however , for my taste , the weathering on the sides is too extreme , especially for a truck that has been repainted recently enough to have a web address on the side . the rear door is excellent , i also worked in a warehouse for a while and those things do take a beating !

Great job. I used to work, many years ago, in a trailer repair shop. We worked on semi-trailers and box trucks. You got the look. I have seen old boxes moved from a terminal truck to a new unit. It is not done often but it ha been one. The only thing I would add would be a patch on the side where a forklift punched through the wall or mask off one of the panels on the door and make it a nice clean new replacement panel.

VERY nice !

great job!!! keep up the good work

I believe I’ve finished up the weathering finally. It took about 3 hours total. The weathering on the cab is a little more than wanted, but good enough. I was rather pleased with the outcome, especially the rear. I was going for the “Piece-of-Crap-But-Still-On-The-Road” look. And I’ve seen Ford C trucks in this bad of shape before. No brag just fact[:D]
