Ok, I finally installed my bridge last week before I left for vacation… Thanks in advance to all who gave tips, ideas and just plain helped me with this fun! I really loved it… so here goes… My inspiration was some bridges I have seen in the Canadian rockies and Cascades (I model a freelanced HO South Cascade and Puget Sound Division of the UP, GN and Milwaukee Road)…
It is a 34" stretch of girder and truss. I bashed both ME’s 150 bridge (x2) and Atlas deck truss bridge (x2). I used part from CV for right support coming from the R pier as well. The piers are made from Durham’s wood puddy (thanks for whoever gave me that idea!!!), molded in styrene molds, with a piece of 1/8 x 1/8 x ~5/8 inch plastic in the center that allowed positive placement.
The most interesting part is the deck, which I made from balsa… 10 scale foot ties with, stained with wood stain and india ink. The guard rail and guard timbers are in the Great Northern scheme (from RMC, I think April or March issue)… I can give better pic’s from above if anyone wants…
The railing is brass wire 0.032 for the vertical “post” and 0.019 for the railing. Every fourth tie was ~3/8 longer for the walkway and I predrilled for the post’s. I made a jig for this as well as for the brass railing positioning and soldering…
It is not yet weathered… I will do that hopefully soon! Enjoy and let me know your thoughts… Thanks again to everyone who gave me ideas and encouragement… I really could not have done this without you.
Brian
P.S. Anyone know what color UP or GN would have made their water barrels that I may put on here?
