My first photo post

Guys,

I finally had the opportunity and the camera along to try my hand at rail photography. I have taken photos of trains but never really “tried” if you know what I mean. Here it is.

Well, I am not a guy, so maybe that makes a difference, but yeah - I like it. Lots of detail to look at and seeing the horse is always fun for a true midwesterner.

Different angle - don’t believe I’ve ever seen that done before - framing both trains from a meet between a couple of grade crossing signal masts or posts, viewed sideways so much that it’s a little hard to tell what they are. The result is pretty good, though - a lot like how most people would see it, from a car waiting there. [tup]

Notice some of the details - how close the switch is to the road crossing, the metal covers for the switch heater, the “SS” sign and the signal roundels in the lower left for the “Spring Switch” indicator, and that the orginal flashing signal and gate on the left has now been supplemented with a much bigger mast on the right for a cantilever set of signals overhead - but only the one set of flashing lights has been moved to that mast, the others stayed on the old mast.

Thanks for sharing ! [bow]

Nice Picture!! Nice Job Paul! Thank You for sharing!

What Paul North, Mookie, and Locomuttr said! It is an interesting perspective. I hope you will get a chance to look at the quality of photos that get posted here. You are in some pretty good company!

I’m no photographer, but I know what I like to see, and there are some really interesting, and quality contributions displayed here. Thank You for sharing with us! [#welcome]

Thanks for everyone’s comments. The picture was taken with just a normal digital flat camera (don’t know what brand, it’s the wife’s). It has gotten me to want to do more train photography.
