this is my attempt at my first module. It is to depict the CP in northern Ontario. Due to a lack of space the layout will be build at an elevated position. I love the hobby and if there is an abundance of space above the door frame then so be it.
Also this is my first attempt to post a picture on this forum, hope it works.[:)]
This part has a 2% incline

Here is a picture with regards to the location of the module
It was a wonderful learning experience getting the module this far, as well as trying to post pictures on this forum. It also taught the beauty of modules as can be seen here due to the fact that originally this was the first piece for a layout in another house in which I moved from a couple of months ago.
Frank, I hope you don’t mind, but I fixed your images for you. All you were missing were the [img] and [/img] brackets (omit the *s). If you retype the picture url with the image brackets you will see the image.
If you are using Photobucket to host your photos, there is no need to manually add the [IMG] tags at both ends, as they supply links with them already in place. Just copy and paste.
Thats a nice module. I like how the narrow the scene is for the trains to go through. Is that closet shelving you used? I am using that to build my layout.
I built my layout in 2’x4’ sections, but not really modules. My last two sections (a logging operation) are modular. When I start a new module, I clamp the benchwork sections together, drill them and install wooden dowels. After that, it’s just a matter of aligning the sections, and inserting two screws to hold them securely. Your 1st module is a beaut!
CSX Fan: Thank you for helping to post the pictures. As for the trees, they were made using the bottle brush method. The wire is the typical floral arrangement wire and the branches are made from string, in this case baler twine. It is the natural fibre baler twine, it was put into boiling water and then dried with one gallon paint cans as a weight to straighten out the strands. It is easier to work with this then the hemp type rope.
Railphotog: Thank you for your advice, it is certainly appreciated. This photo posting is a totally new experience, now if only I could figure out how to make these letters not bold.
Virgina CSX: The reason for the height is due to a lack of space. Also being 6’1" elevated the layout to this height. The structure is made from 15/8*15/8 steel studs to save on weight but it has very sharp edges. These edges would certainly leave nasty marks if one were to bump their head on it. Only the ends have wood for ease of adding other modules to the end. Of course the roadbed is also on plywood.
P42 108: The shelving system is of the cantilever style which was purchased at the home depot. This way there is the ability to move the module up or down a few inches.
Medina1128: I like your method of holding the modules together. My method on previous attempts was to use 1/4" threaded rod with fender washers.
