My first succsessful Repaint/Decalling

From rust to Demo, this BL2 has become my first acvtually successful redo. We’ll start from the beginning, it’s a Proto pre-DCC BL2, I bought at a train show for 25. Originally 30, but cracked gears and the seller knocked off the cost of the gears for me. The engine was a WM, a previous owner primered it it two shades of rust color. The engine never made it to it;s true colors, we’ll never know what he wanted. It made it to the seller, and then to me. I was going to use it’s chassis for an AHM Monon. I decided to reuse the shell though on the bum AHM, and it would sit and look pretty, or maybe I’d fix it. over the next year, I decided to actually use it for something, and was painted Blue from a spray to be a Naptown White River Club (Mine) but the blue was too light. Along came a disscussion on this forum, and someone tossed out the demo. In looking for it, I discovered the blue shell I have is correct, and that Microscale sells the decals. Another month went by, the decals arrived thursday, the silver went on Friday, and decals were on Saturday Night. (Sunday Morning. Say, 2 am[:-^]) So here she is. Sorry for the bad pictures.

This is where I started. It turned out right good, no problems with the decals. On this side are the stripes, bot ends road numbers, and the F marking front. It is there, but no normal human can read it.

Roof shots, You may notice the silver. This IS overspray, but oddly, I find it draws my attentiopn much the way weathering does, and I like it.

Flash…on decals, I usually let them soak in the water until they float free of the paper. I also use decal setting solution. Not sure if you used setting solution or not.

I like the color scheme. Can’t comment on the work…can’t see it in the pics. [:-^]

Overspray on the roof? Why did you not mask the roof? [banghead]

Great job. BTW, go Jeff gordon.

I doubt if anyone can read anything in your photos. You appear to be closer than your camera can focus, and/or using a cell phone or other really small camera. Sure is hard commenting on your work with such out of focus and poor quality photos. One thing about digital photos, you can see what they look like before you try and share them with others. If they are crappy, then that’s what others will see. Try doing them over until you get something worth while to look at.

I did, but it may have either not stuck and came up on me, as it seems to have come from one side.

I suect the camera issues is 1) me, and 2) the lighting. It’s a Kodak M753
