My First Time (at Tehachapi that is)

In 1989, I had lost my mind regarding film… honestly don’t know what happened, but I decided it didn’t matter. Would probably have bought K-Mart film if they made it.

Anyway, with a lot of Photoshop and a touch of Neat Image, I managed to sort of rescue the shots from my first trip to Tehachapi (a birthday present from a non-railfan buddy, who had read about it and insisted on taking me up there).

First image is of an SP manifest behind what I just found out was one of their last unrebuilt SD45s at the time. (Anyway to tell the symbol on this?)

Second image is a pig train from the Santa Fe. (Again, was this a run whose symbol would be obvious?)

Thanks for looking (and imagine how much better these would be had I just put Kodachrome in the camera).

The SP train appears to be a unit train from Napa Pipe with a reefer as a buffer car. It appears the ATSF train has UPS trailers on it, so I would guess it is North Bay, CA to Willow Springs, IL (I think that was the 199 or 991).

Very cool – thanks for the info Eric.
