My first trouble on ebay

This person claims he paid me for an item I did not ship. I checked my account and he has not even bid on any items I have sold. On top of that I only allow bids within the US and he is located in Britain. Even more suspicious, I have never sold anything for anywhere near $1500 (what he claims I took from him). I also know its a fake because on a real member question, it says the name of the member and the item in question. This just says “question from ebay member”. I’m not sure what this person is trying to accomplish, but here is the email.

This person is an idiot! It says at the top my name is included to show its really from ebay, and my ebay name is nowhere to be found! He also says that he paid me money, but the description says I bid on his item?[%-)]. He is even con

" have you ship it "
“My paypal account show me …”
"…that you screw me for 1500 !!! "

not only is he tryin to scam you, but he doesnt know how to write sentences !!!

It’s a scam, report it to E-bay (forward the E-mail) and forget it. I get E-bay scam e-mails about once every three months or so, but yours is a new angle.

I get that kind of stuff everyday. Just delete or report to spoof@ebay.com. Don’t worry about it. It’s called “phishing” and it’s happening everywhere. Just delete and move on…

I got one once saying I had won I car that I bid on to the tune of $8,000…they will try anything to try to get something for nothing won’t they?

You didn’t sign on via the email link did you?? IF you did, immediately change your passwords on both ebay and paypal…

Dodgy spelling, suspect choice of words (we don’t use “screw” over here in that context - “conned” would be more likely), and the name doesn’t match the user ID. I supect this may be some poor soul whose account has been hacked for purposes of attempting to extort money.

Technicaly this is not trouble with Ebay. This is trouble with the internet in general. These scams are nothing more than an attempt to get your username and password so they can scam others. I read a story recently where someone with a good feedback rating fell for one of these scams. He responded to the “request” and promply had his account hijacked. Before he realized this, the scammers listed about 50 “Too Good To be True” items all ending on the same day and scammed at least $3000 from unsuspecting buyers. Ebay will never send you an email like this. If you suspect it then log onto your “My Ebay” and check your messages there. All Emails from them will show up there. For the record, I get at least 2 of these scams per day regarding items supposedly purchased from Ebay, at least 1 for Paypal, 4 or more from various banks requesting that I update my information and several per week from “busineses” in Nigeria wanting toi use a credit card to purchase goods from my business even though they don’t have a clue what I sell. The model railroading industry must be a gold mine over there as they all want to buy precast coal loads and decals in large quantities.

Agreed! I think the title of this topic is misleading. eBay had little to do with your issues. I don’t think it’s fair to bash eBay for something that is generally occurring everywhere on the internet.

What was the “item” that was “supposedly” sold for $1,500?

Just for giggles, xerox a copy of the new “it” ebay slogan and mail it to him [:D]

But seriously, report it to ebay and/or paypal as spoof.

Take care,

Russell

well… at least the scammers were stupid enough to let you know that it was fake. [:D][:D]

I got a bunch of spoofs back a while ago and some of them do look convincing enough. Lately I haven’t been receiving any.

oops I just jinxed myself. [B)]

well i looked up the name and rick_7890 was recently changed to soccerlad_789 (34) changed the ID on 2/09/2006. This person’s no longer a registered eBay user.

Hmm I wonder… a new way to get someone in trouble??

I don’t worry about things like that. I cancelled my ebay account over a year ago. I’ve been sleeping a lot better. Ebay has very little to offer me… or anyone else, for that matter, if you really look at what you’re going to get for your money…
