My Forums

Maybe I am missing something but what happened to “My Forums”. I used to be able to go all the way back and read the forums I posted or replied to. Need some help here.

Doc,

I thought the same thing at first, but I found it. It’s on the right with a section heading called “My Discussions” and you can see each forum you’ve participated in showing as a link under it.

I’m slow as usual. I don’t see it. All I get on the right is this below:

Hi Doc,

I agree. That feature is one that is very useful. Right now all that is available is if you click on “Inbox” which brings you to a screen that has the column “My Discussions”. That is where the “My Forums” posts are located. Only problem is that they go back only 10 items. Hopefully that will be changed in the future so that we can see all the posts in which we were involved.

If you click your screen name under My Profile (toward the top of the right column) and then Posts by (screen name) on the right of your profile page, all of the past posts that have been indexed so far will come up. The list is still short (only goes back about a week at the moment) but, like a stalactite, it grows a little each time I look. Eventually, I expect to see all of my surviving posts (about 3500 just before the big upheaval.)

The route I just described has two advantages:

  1. Enough of the old post shows that you can get a good idea of where you were in the discussion - assuming that your memory is good.

  2. When selected, the feature goes right to the displayed post, not to the top of a 50-page thread like the old version. No need to wade through months of Elliott’s Trackside Diner to find the four posts about (fillintheblank) if yours was one of the four.

I still haven’t figured out how to find old personal messages, but that was a feature I never made a lot of use of.

O.K, next goofball question:

In the older format, after reading each thread all you had to do was click on the “General Discussion” link on the top and/or bottom of the screen to go back to Page 1. I don’t see that here and am just clicking the back arrow. Gets annoying if you’re on page 5 of a thread! [D)]

I do see the Gen Discussion in small letter up above, but for me it’s not an active link when I click on it. [%-)]

I followed the MRR advice on their post to solve the forum problem by contactimg Customer Service. This was their reply:

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Trains.com. If you click on your screen name and then on your total post number, you will then be able to read all prior posts. We appreciate your continued interest!

If we can be of further assistance, please email customerservice@kalmbach.com, phone 1-800-533-6644 or fax 262-796-1615. Customers outside the U.S. and Canada may contact us at 262-796-8776, ext. 421. Thank you.

ITDOES NOT WORK.

I only got the last post I made not the remaining 228 posts I made previously.

Doc

Doc,

Patience, patience, patience…since the forum is now running on new software, the database index of all of your old posts has to be updated into the database of the new software…this TAKES TIME! There have been about a dozen mentions of this fact in different threads over the last two days. All good things come to those who wait…
