My FP7 is DONE!! (pics)

As some of you know, I’ve been painting my FP7 for CGW. Well, now it’s done[:D]

Here’s what it looked like when I bought it

after primer

paint, but no decals

paint, gloss, decals, dullcote[;)][8D]

sorry if some are a little blurry.

Very Nice man!! What brand is it?? Did you use a airbrush?

NICE! What is it, Athearn? If it is, it’s better than their run-of-the-mill paint jobs! Keep up the good work![^]

1970s Atlas FP7. Nope no airbrush. Spray paint. The red is floquil took the entire can to paint it. The decals are microscale, the black paint is rustoleum flat black, which you can find at any hardware store.

I just noticed something- I forgot to put the airhorns back on![banghead][banghead]

silly boy[;)]

You did a great job on that. It’s good to see some painting and decaling.

Jim

Looks good bud! You get the sticky gear fixed?

Happens to the best of us. I did a locomotive once. Painted decaled. clear coated. Took it to the layout. Noticed I forget to decal an entire side.

That will make you feel dumb. At least it was a minor fix.

James

it does look great though good work

Thanks for the compliments everyone! I’m amazed at how good it turned out. I’ll definitly be painting more CGW!

ICRR, the gears have been good but I need to open it up again and lubricate them. They sometimes stick. I got to get some gear lube first. It has been running quieter than it was.

I think I’m buying another FP7 when I go to the LHS again[;)]

Nicely done. You can tell you did everything right when the decals are so well-blended-in like that.

For your next project, maybe you want to try your hand at adding some details before you paint and decal. [|)]

Great paint job you did. Looks cool.

Your work could be admired much more if you posed the engine where there is more light. Maybe even on your workbench with a light. Photography is painting with light, and dark and murky photos do not show stuff properly. Even some temporary lighting such as a trouble light, desk lamp, etc., will help light photos better.

Here’s a basic setup, using white cardboad base and reflectors to put more light where it is needed:

Here’s a result:

Thanks for sharing the photo tip. I always envisioned that you’d need the big studio lights for results like that. You definately showed that doesn’t need to be the case to get good results.

Thanks again for sharing!

Brian

Looks great! My layout is 100% freelance, and I’ve been tinkering in photoshop and paint with some custom liveries. Your results are encouraging. Maybe I’ll give it a go too.

Thanks,
Trevor

Bob, good picture technique. The engine looks great, and the horns might make it look even better. Good job.

Now that’s the kind of work I’m looking to do!!!Lighting, camera and photo box!!!
Great work on yours Dingoix!!! You can find some great colors in cheap spray cans if you willing to shop and experiment a bit…

Nice work! Those old Atlas/Roco FPs are well worth buying if you come across them.

Nice work dingoix!
