I had to make a last minute trip to Tuscaloosa Alabama to visit a potential customer. I sell medical equipment and spend a good percentage of my time in hospital Neurology and Neuro Intensive care depts and private practice neurology offices. With the exception of a train layout or two in the lobbies of children’s hospitals, I have never had a MRR experience on the job. So today I find myself in a doctors office and find that he is converting one of the patient rooms into a layout room. HO scale Marklin layout filling a table some 20 x 8. Apparently he likes to work on the layout between patients and so has it at work. Anyway, it has the makings of a fine layout. The Marklin locomotives are quite breathtaking. I wish I had my camera with me!
Wow. That’s a cool story.
You were close by. Nice and humid today, huh?
SWEET!!!
When I was a kid, my uncle dentist had an HO layout in his private practice office for a few years - off in a back room.
Well that explains it. While I’m out sitting in the waiting room, He’s not backed with patients. He’s building the new tunnel on his layout!
Maybe that’s what I should do here at work. Make those slow days go a lot faster.
How’s the saying go?
It just doesn’t get any better then this!
Awesome!!
I should go to that doctor’s office!!
hmmm
when will school cross with MRR
someday
imagine getting a shot that makes you go owwy and then picking up a throttle
hmmm
Study hard and get to a school like The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute!!

Yeah - I went to a “party school”, but it worked because I wasn’t much of a partyer.
Now, if I would have gone to RPI, there could have been some serious academic distractions!
Seriously though, it could have been a problem!
I had to write-off playing drumset during school just because I was too busy with school/work, and other types of drumming I was doing.
Throw MRR’ing into the equation, and I would have been screwed!
Actually, I read an MR article several years ago where a 6th-grade teacher used a model railroad as a history/art teaching tool. The whole class participated in building the layout.[:p]
Before being medically retired from my job due to a major heart attack my job was that of a folk lift operator…The catch?I unloaded boxcars…What’s special about that? Well our rail dock face the NS main line…So, I always found a way to be in a good viewing spot whenever I heard a train blowing for one of the crossings…[:D] When I was caught goofing off watching a train go by I used the old safety issue how unsafe it is unloading a boxcar while a train goes by in the invent of a derailment…[;)][:D] Being union the supervisors had to live with our contract which states that employees are ensured a safe working environment.[;)] Worked like a charm…[:D]
