I finally got my layouts DCC hooked up. I bought two 4-8-4 northern types and installed chips got my loconet cables run so I can plug my throttle in and move it place to place. Still got lots of track to lay and a thrid loop. I got lots of pictures I need to upload so you can see what has been growing in the garage as my wife puts it. I also wired the motor to my turntable and it goes round and round.
Still debating on doing DC for my switch machines or going full bore with the DCC and using stationary decoders. Also on hand held throttles does anyone use velcro for holding them on the facia board when not in use? Did you glue it on and if so what type of glue did you use?
thanks
Sean,
I’m sure that you’ll like DCC! I like to use ground throws for the switches and walk around with the trains and throw the switch points manually. I have a few switches that I can’t reach so I’ve got push buttons on the fascia just opposite the switch.
I don’t think that I would like entering the addresses for accessory decoders and of course they cost a lot more than ground throws.
I think that the adhesive on the velcro strips will hold up OK. I use the stuff in my automobile sometimes and it seems to hold up in this Texas heat (usually).
I use industrial-type stick-on velcro on my Zephyr command station to keep it from sliding around, and the glue that’s on the velcro pieces holds great! Once it’s applied, it stays stuck.
You can find industrial velcro at just about any big hardware store.
you can use an advanced stationary decoder like a DS54 and still do walkaround without having to type switch addresses into throttles. I’ve got local pushbuttons on the fascia and also use a PC and mouse to control them. Both are user friendly.
