My Model RR Logo - Pics

I have just finished creating my new model railroad’s logo and I thought it came out pretty good. For some reason the pics look a little jaggedy but the logo prints out smooth. I purposely tried to make the logo resemble the New York Cenral logo as my RR is a subdivision of the NYC. It is oval with the name New York & Putnam wrapped around a rendition of the headless horseman. Since the NY&P runs through the area of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow, I thought the headless horseman was a great pic for the logo.

Here are the three color variations I have chosen:

Let me know what you think!

I like them. The first is the best for on the side of a tender, and the others could be embroidered ones for caps and shirts. Would make cool belt buckles, too.

Thanks selector, I never thought of belt buckles. I thought the red might look good also on a black tender. I have to try making some homemade decals and see how they come out.

I think the red would be fine on a tender, but only if it were rendered much like my avatar at left. IOW, fill in for a red background, and the stuff that is currently red outline, including the border, would have to be white or gold…in my view.

If you don’t mind a little “constructive nitpicking”[:P]…I like the herald, my only concern would be esp. in the steam era it would be pretty rare to find a railroad using script lettering. (Of course the New Haven would be the exception!!) If this were a real historical herald, it probably would have been done in Railroad Roman (or maybe sans-serif) with the letters “arched” to match the curve of the oval shape. To me, the script makes it look more like a modern tourist / dinner train herald. But that’s just me of course !!

Red with gold lettering would look good. One of the problems I’m afraid I’m going to face with homemade decals is white lettering (if the decal sheet is clear, how does one apply white lettering with a printer?) Using gold lettering would solve that problem. Hmmmmm… perhaps I should try that and see how it looks.

stix, you hit the nail on the head. I used script per the New Haven RR. My layout connects with the New Haven and it was that style script “look” that I was looking for. I tried roman and sans serif and was not as impressed with the results. As far as arching the words, they are as arched to match the oval as my software will allow. Good criticism and thought provoking stuff.
