I finally got my new Athearn Veranda Turbine back from the DCC installer. He installed a QSI decoder, two 1.2" speakers, and replaced all lighting with LEDs.
It runs great, this must have a genesis motor in it? Does anybody know?
I got some Walthers UP Streamliner City Cars for a museum excursion passenger train.
Geez that cab is bright. Give the engine crew a pair of sunglasses.
I’d love to see the excursion train too. I’ve been scanning consists of UP’s business trains to tack onto my Genesis Big Boy, if I had a Veranda it’d get it too. I’d love to have gotten one, but alas, the money.
Nice but I hope your passengers are issued earplugs as they are boarding. I’ve heard that those turbines tend to generate a little noise when they are running at full speed.
That lighting sure looks better than Athearn’s stock! Maybe I should replace the lights in my Turbine too.
To answer your question about the motor, Athearn’s Turbine chassis is made by Sanda Kan, and uses the same motor and gear manufacturing as Atlas and Proto.
I love your excursion train. I might suggest you find a way to keep the light from leaking into the cab area. My favorite method is to use some black heat shrink tubing to cover the whole LED or aluminum foil. Both methods work quite well. I know that a camera can definitely make it look worse.
That Turbine looks fantastic in excursion service, your’e layout is fantastic as well. Here’s a thought, should you tire of your turbine, you could always aquire a couple of BLI Centipedes, UP ordered a set only to later cancel that order in favor of Alco PA’s.
