Well for me to be able to run a train here is what I have to do I think. If I leave any thing out please let me know.
Finish Laying Homasote, Cork, Track.
Build 2 double track wooden tresles or 4 single track tresles.
Run all the wiring.
Fix it with wire plugs because it is made up of (12) 2’x4’ tables for moving made some what easier.
Buy and wire up all of my switch machines (well wire them up enough to where I don’t have to pull up all of my switches later, leaving the power wires hanging under the table for now.)
You’ve got a real good start there, James. You layout looks like mine did a couple of months ago, track and wires laying all over. You’ll get it sorted.
Well I seen the same 2 engines in the same order today at work! Althought they where Hundreds of miles apart and on a completely different tracks. Although this time these 2 were pulling a pretty short load of box cars, tankers, 2 flats, 2 empty car hallers, grain cars insted of many rail cars full of rails!
Is there some where I can look up the track lay out for around my place?
My layout is made up of (12) 2’x4’ tabls screwed together. So when it gets down to that time I will be removing tables for final finishing. Although I plain do work pretty slow from here on out.
Once I get my trains running, I will need to get all the kinks out of the track. Then when that is done I will start on the buildings, then landscap. Once all the foam is fix the way I like it I will just run my trains for a month or so and make sure I don’t want to change any thing
Oh and I am just going to use homasote to cross my river for now. So I can run my trains while I build my tresles!
Thanks for the complaments on my work. I am trying my hardest to do thinks right! Well at lest what I think is right.
Once I get my wirring supplies this weekend I can start wiring things up.
Great pictures. I’m actually doing something similar in that I’m starting my layout. I have all of my pictures posted here…http://traintrackblog.blogspot.com/
Great start, James - - looks like my Toledo Eastern Corridor switching layout looks right now - - wires and track laying all over the place. Right now, I only get to work on it on weekends. It’ll be interesting to see pictures of the progress.
I will be making a trip to one of my LHS tomorrow for supplies and lowes for some supplies!
Well I say LHS they are 45 minutes away and 1.45 hours away. So they are not so local really but they are the my LHS.
I need to pickup some cork, flex track, isalation rail joiners (for reverse loop), rolls of wire, plugs, and so on. So I should have a pretty hefty bill tomorrow. I will be sure to post pictures tomorrow of what all I get done. I should have all most all day to work on my layout, although I have to carve a pumpkin with my newfew tomorrow also.
I did not get as much done as I hoped. I just have my bus wires ran and I am now ready to hook my track feeders to my bus wires (i will have this done tonight), build a spot for my power source to sit, I need to buy some decoders.
In the mean time, my engines and rolling stock did not mined posing for some photos. Just for you folks!
The stuff under my cork is 3/8" homosote. It is used as a sub roadbed and is used for sound deadening. Others including my self line subwoofer boxes with it. It helps with the sound qaulity. It is hard to come by in 3/8" thick, although you can find it in more places in 1/2" but you want the 3/8" stuff. It is made of some sort of paper. If you need more info you can do a search for it here and you can find many post about it. Oh and I think it is about $20.oo persheet (4’x8’x3/8")
