Well, Some of you may remember my poll about the name for railroad. Well, Thanks to you guys, it is The Kiva Valley Railway. After I got that squared away, I was able to pick the colors and got my scheme started. I started last weekend, so between work, 3 trips to[V] the hobby store, I got it all done last nigh[:D]t. I got a SW7 undecorated from BLI.
Only thing missing is the decals for the hood. That will be KVR but that will probably wait unitl I got a few others. The pic below is also how all deisels will get painted up. So what do you guys think?[:I]
My lay out lives in era’s, its either 1956, or 2006. This pic below I like to think late 1955 and the engine first came out of the paint booth in the KVR paint. Some of the local hands are checkin it out just outside the engine shop. it is the first deisel KVR has purchased. Number 4 on the company roster
Here it is on the rails going through Silo Junction
This is offical KVR paint scheme. Hopefully, I have atleast one done up in a few months. Once the purchaseing dept has more funds [:p]
Good work. How did you go about deciding on the paint scheme?
I am building a proto-lance of the Cincinnati, Georgetown & Portsmouth Railroad that went out of business in 1936. Of course I want to model it in the transition era. There was one history of the Railroad written and it was illustrated but only in black and white and of course none of the equipment I will be using is shown. I have an idea what I want but I am interested in hearing how others have thought this through.
I think that paint scheme is kick a**. I would do one thing though. The tops of the handrails would look great if painted black. Try one and see. But I like them anyhow. How did you paint it? What paint did you use?
[:D][:D] Thanks guys! I had alot of thinking into the paint and scheme…ALOT.
The colors and scheme came about do to the complete desire to have something different. Problem was, what ever colors I came up with, it was all ready done. I found the black and white is rare, but could be boring. But I found that it stands out among the others. Since my layout is freelanced, I still have lots of “visting roadpower” and “color”. Also, I am part of modualr club that does alot of shows and events. I wanted a scheme that would make folks do a double take. That, and no one would confuse my engine for their’s. For the next show, for giggles, I am going to take a UP engine and patch it for my road. HA![:D]
The Swicther is the only one that will have actual scheme painted… All of the others will get the rendition down below. I came up with since it seemed like everyone had kinda of the same patterns, 2 or 3 tone paint or the vertical angles stripes. I wanted so a pattern that would be different.
What was intersting though, and hepled a little was “prototype thinking” The paint was done for the SW7 so that it would stand out among others in the yard, hence the white, but have the black to cut down on glare for the crew. For the other “hood deisel scheme” Same thing. White to pop out, and black roof to cover dirt and grime, and cut glare around the cab. Red handrails for saftey, and the red and white stripes for safety too. Over all scheme would make it easy to see the yard and know what was who’s and where.
Wow, that’s a great looking loco. You’re right, it’s sure going to stand out. Hopefully your train crews know how to use some soap and water. Hate to see that white turn to brown. I’d almost hate to see other railroads on your layout. It would take away from how great your own engines will look.
I got on a run today after posting up the engine and painted up the KVR’s first caboose. Its pretty cool haveing a matching set. There are still some detials left to add, but its on its way. This time of year, I can open the gargae and get some nice pics in them .sun
and also grabbed this one. It just looked to cool.

That caboose looks pretty good too. You’re gonna make me get out my airbrush aren’t you? Not that I have anything to paint or anything right now, but you’re making me want to.
