What do you think of my Freelanced railroad colors?
My layout is a freelanced Dock and Urban switching layout called the Eastgate Transfer Company. It is Co-owned by the NYC and the B&O as a neutral switching company for the customers.
I am waiting on some custom decals to finish the 44 tonner. The will be white letters probably.
I was also thinking that it was very bright. And for a switcher, that’s probably a good thing. I do like the three colors together…A very subtle transition between them, and in matching, almost pastel-like shades. A good combination if you ask me.
A pastel diesel? Doesn’t work for me, looks like something that would run in an amusement park, or a toy train you’d see on a kid’s TV program. I can’t imagine any prototype wanting such a light color that would get really dirty real fast.
But it’s your railroad, you can do whatever you want!

It’s a little like my freelanced road, except what is apparently jade green on your model would be sky blue on mine, and the Amtrak blue would be dark blue on mine. Also, based somewhat on a Baldwin demonstrator, the dark blue only goes partway up the cab windows, and ends at a gold stripe that goes all the way around the engine. I use a custom red and white herald, a little red looks good against all the blue I think.
repairman87, thats a nice color scheme for your ge 44 tonner. the colors for my bachmann spectrum 44 tonner will be CNW yellow with UP dark grey for the cab roof
You know, shortlines often had some pretty eye-catching schemes, especially since they weren’t worried about painting a fleet of thousands of units. If a line only had a few engines, they often painted them in some pretty outlandish colors and had a lot of organizational pride. Who can forget the C&PA and WA&G’s eye-catching cream-and-reddish-orange scheme? Even some of the C&PA’s structures were orange and cream. Another great PA shortline, the Huntingdon and Broad Top Mountain used an ex-PRR doodlebug painted bright blue as a passenger car mated with a tuncan-red ex-PRR RPO. Shortlines did (and do) things their way, and not necessarily the way the big roads do them.
I have to say, though, that if Sea World had a railroad, that would be their paint scheme![:o)] Actually, that would be a great maritime railroad scheme. Very creative!
Looks great, man! Really, love it. My only suggestion (I am a relative newbie ) is maybe hashmarks/diagonal stripes of say blue or green on that white fender/side-edge. I hope I am clarifying what I mean. It would match the herringbone V on the front and make the edge a bit better, in my VERY humble opnion. LOVE the colors! Great job.
