my new (small) yard

Here is a pic of my small yard, I would like a bigger one but this all the room I have for now. Any suggestions?

Looks good and it seems you do have a faily large layout area. I like the scenery so far. I wondered where the turnout at the end of the long track went. You could sneek another track in up by the road.

you have encountered the same problem I have had for years. I have always wanted a bigger yard but I just don’ t have the room.

If we could just figure out that whole space/time dimesion thing, we’d have all the layout space we could ever want.

Looks good!

It is not the size of the yard but how well you can use it. [:D]
Sheesh I sound like confucious or something. Confused [%-)]

I think it looks good. I would keep the tracks a good distance from each other, to avoid car-rubbing.

Your yard tracks can be spaced as close as 2.5 inches center-to-center without having any car-rubbing issues. As long as your track work is flawless, you shouldn’t have to worry about fixing derailments with the cars in close proximity.

Being this close also looks more prototypical.

What standard did you finally wind up adoptng for the track spacing in your yard???

I used 2.25’‘, I know that is a little close but I only had a limited amount of space to work with. With only about 8’ of track in the yard, I can only do so much with it. I alsu put insulated rail joiners where the yard meets the main line, by doing this I should be able to use the yard to program DCC locos when I get ready, Am I right?
