My New Website

Well thanks to the wonderful information and support I got from all the fine people here I have pushed my self forward and am starting my project.
It may well turn out to be most embarresing time sink I’ve been ever done. However, best foot forward and perhaps not all that best ego to boot I have started a web page to document the layout, pics, info, etc.

Those intrested can find it here:

Let me know what ya think, good, bad, silly, etc.

Thanks and Peace

Nice. If you’re going to parallel rails on route 66, your best and probably most scenic portion would be through Northern Arizona and New Mexico, where the highway paralleled the Santa Fe mainline for miles and miles. Neat scenery, everything from high desert to plateaus, to nice, tall tree-covered mountains (the San Francisco Peaks around Flagstaff, AZ). it was quite a highway, I traveled it a lot during the early '60’s between Texas and California, when I was stationed in Amarillo. And with Santa Fe within viewing distance, you could be assured of a train about every twenty minutes. I like your idea, and I’m looking forward to seeing how your layout progresses.

Well after some research and comparisons to where track and highway at least draw near to each other a decision has been made!
the OL and I have decided to do the AT&SF running from roughly Amarilo, Tx into Santa Monica, Ca. We’re kicking around the idea of doing the Super Chief as well.

Thanks for all your help and encouragement Tom!

Peace.

Looks like a great idea, but it seems you have a lot of stuff to clear out before you get startd huh?

Cool idea, that should be a nice modeling project

Looks like my old garage. Where does all that stuff come from anyhow? I think maybe it just reproduces in the dark at night when we are sleeping!
Looking forward to seeing your progress,
Terry

looks like my shed. cool. cant wait till we see some pics of ur layout and not all that stuff

Looks good. Did you use that Trelix software to build it? You can go to Google,Yahoo and some others and submit your site to them to get into their key word search engines.
It’s free, but expect to wait 4-6 weeks to take effect. They call it “crawling”. I’m coming up on 1000 hits on mine!

Train 284;

[xx(] That I do indeed! But I got the OL’s new freezer moved in and have about an 1/8th of the Garage cleaned out. [:)] Now to figure out how to make it enviromentaly ‘secure’.

Thanks Cheese3, I’m looking forward to it, and the OL is even excited! [:D]

Scubaterry;

I hear you! Most of that is the remenants of my oldest son’s room. He’s off on his life with career and women and all the grand vistas a young man should have… I get left with ten year old drum sets, guitars and boxes of -his- stuff that you just know he’d be crused if -I- got rid of! laughs Kids never truely grow up they just alter outer form. [;)]

Peace.

Amen, same for me! [:D]

I’m unsure of the software it was provided by my ISP (Verizon).shrugs
Thanks for the advice, I’ll look into that.

Your Visit Counter bumps every time you go to a new page, and then again on the way back. I think I was visitors 703 through 712. At that rate, you’ll be over 9999 and out of Decoder numbering range in no time.

MisterBeasley,

Oh brother… I’m going to have to figure that one out… Thanks for the heads up.

Peace.

Nice site! Great theme and history primer. I love the home page train graphics. Have fun with it.

does that mean i should take all this stuff i’ve got around here that’s still in boxes from the our last move 10 years ago and go drop it off at my dad’s ?

hehe i know he wouldn’t be amused . although somewhere in his house is my old N scale stuff including an oval of track on a chunk of plywood . he said he might have a look at that sometime , never has as far as i know

Great web site, and the theme is great too! I love it!

We just came off a vacation in portions of that area this past April. We drove from Las Vegas, NV to Williams, AZ, and then onto Winslow, AZ, and Gallup, NM following the old Route 66. Saw plenty of Union Pacific traffic both east and west bound along the sections between Flagstaff, AZ and Gallup, NM, almost every 15 minutes a consist was moving in either direction. In Winslow, AZ there is the La Posada hotel where you can go out on the back porch and watch the rail traffic all day long. We ate lunch there and stayed for about two hours, I counted about 16 seperate trains that pulled through. A notice on the back door of the hotel mentions that as many as 100 trains will pass each day.

Looking forward to viewing the updates on you web site.

Good job on the website! You are taking a creative approach to a model railroad. Route 66 is/was the stuff American legends are made of. A little modeler’s license, a dose of creativity, and a tongue firmly in cheek should produce a very enjoyable layout. Good luck on it and keep us posted.

I like how you have the passenger train running across the top. Providing your climate is reasonably temperate you can be out there all year ya lucky stiff! I look forward to seeing your progress on the layout, have fun!!
