My next project..center of town

I’m shuffling building around in the center of the layout, trying to decide the best placement for everything…I’m also playing with the camera (Sony Cybershot), so I hope you enjoy the effects.

Bob…Nice buildings are they all scrach built?..Do you work in N scale?..I see a South western look to your buildings ?..Cox 47

They’re all scratchbuilt, the 'ol peepers being what they are these days, I use a lighted magnifer/desk lamp. N-scale is mostly what I’m working on these days. I tried to do all southwestern to fit a Northwestern layout…still out for debate among the family members if it will work out.

Maybe northern California? What era are you representing?

That’s what I was working toward…The N. Cal. look. The middle of the layout is mine…the outside edges and the backdrops are the girl’s ideas…I do the work [:)]

Here’s a pic of the oldest’s farm scene:

Nice job on farm buildings…The barn looks great…Are you using Balsa wood? You have any photos of building you are working on? Where do you get your plans?..Cox 47

Momma says thanks…she painted the barn [:)] 90% is balsa, the rest is foam core and cardboard. Lately, we’ve been working on mostly flats…a grain headhouse, a tank farm and oil refinery, and a small stretch of city building to mount to the backdrops.

The backdrops are interchangable, so we can session a varity of industries when we run them. I don’t have any pics from the last month as we just moved into our new house (another plus for a portable layout…it’ll roll with you to the next home), but I will have some more to post soon.

Bob, your buildings are pretty exceptional for scratchbuilt balsa structures. The farm scene looks really nice with the barn and farmhouses, I’m sure whatever you decide to do with the center of the layout will turn out nicely. Great work.

Sorry Cox…I didn’t see you asked about plans. Believe it or not, no plans; it’s just something or a combination of things one of us has seen.

Here’s one of our almost completed scenes…all that’s missing is glass, shades and lighting. The third from the right was painted by the little one…no snickering [:I] The first one on the left is my oldest attempt from about 20 yrs. ago. I couldn’t bare to pitch it out. I marveled at what one could do with a CD jewel case cover, craft sticks and black electrical tape.

I think that is great how your whole family participates. Having a nice looking layout is a bonus on top of the time you spend together.

The oldest comes up with the ideas but with her busy schedule (boys. telephone, school, church, etc), she only “checks in” to monitor everyone elses work these days [(-D]

The little one is always around…she has her own workbench by the layout, and mostly works on painting and gluing the scraps off of my workbench. She has her own “observation platform” that’s layout height, and runs “her” loop “her way”. It’s a good thing there’s a yard and another loop or I’d never get to run them.

The big boss is always coming up with nice ideas and is always glad to lend a third hand. She likes N-scale, but prefers HO…one day soon, I’d like to suprize her with some HO stuff to see what she’d do with it.
