Thats Why i have a closed circut TV for those that don’t want to duck under they can sit in the living room and watch the trains run on my TV or they can view it on the internt Via the web cam

How did you do your water scenes?

I start by painting the bottom which is usually plywood with several coats to hide the grain of the wood ~~darker in the deep spots (sometimes black) then gradually lighter toward the banks

with a mudbrown along the edge i prefer pullman green as a color

because i’ve never seen a blue river

i tried woodland scenics but it never got completely hard and trapped layers of dust so i chose an epoxi called envirotex lite

You’ll need a small straw to blow on the tiny bubbles that arise as it cures

The carbon dioxide in you breath makes the disapear

I did the pond on the cattle feed lot as a test

I did not tint it

(Highly recomend a test pond)

And this stuff does dry completly hard

Just wipe the dust off when needed

Terry, I wish I had your talent. It would be great to have more layout tours like this one available.

I like the fact that friends can watch online from wherever they are. There was a layout in Germany that you could view online and you could click on an Icon to make a train do one lap around the layout. How’s that for a challenge?

Actually my Buddy in AZ operates remotely on my layout using his cell phone he also has Wifi cameras on his layout the trick is to alow for the 5 second delay in order to stop at the station in time

Kinda like the Mars rover

Great video, the layout is very nicely detailed and I think the way you run live coal loads is neat. I also enjoy Willie Nelson’s rendition of City of New Orleans.

Are those old Mantua/Tyco hoppers, that dump with the clamshell doors in the bottom? I’ve got a bunch of those, too.

Yes I repainted and Decaled them in the Berwind Coal company logo because it actually says

“When Empty return to Thurmond”

and also some came with C&O logos

I use the trick track inside the coaling towers to open the doors

So far evreryone likes the layout
They all love the operating coal tipple
I can’t believe any thing as simple and cheap as 2 ball point pen springs glued end to end
laying in a soda straw cut in half horizontally to form a trough and when rotated via a low RPM motor makes an auger to move the coal works so good
Day 2 starts at noon today
