I have about 30 Walthers Gold line 89’ autocarriers. Does the sides come off like shown n the pic? ow should I proceed? I want to paint one in the P&W white road like the pic below.
Interesting. I would just make it simple, and just paint over your other (yellow I presume?) autorack cars, with the white paint. Then decal it with the P&W. Then weather them also, so it covers up any paint mishaps.
I have those exact same cars. The new Walthers 89’ autoracks. I’m not sure, but it looks like you can pop them out. But if it were me, I wouldn’t worry about removing the sides. Just paint as is.
From the prototype pic, it looks like the panels are painted the same color as the rest of the car. It looks more of a light grey than a white.
After waiting & waiting for one of these to show up on Ebay one finally did. I got it for $25.00 including shipping. I’ll post pics of the progress. I have the decals, paint, and the Autocar. I am excited. I’ll be adding minor detail parts also.
I picked up 1 ages ago, undecorated. I had a couple photos for Southern Railway, and painted it in the green paint scheme. I later found 3 more undecorated ones at some shop and got them for like $10 each, and intend to do them up in the same scheme. I painted the roof and side panels with … I forget what now, some rattle can silver. Oddly enough, the paint allowed the “grain” of the plastic to show through, giving an unintended yet quite realistic “galvanized steel” look. I recieved several compliments on the effect, and was asked how I achieved it.
Walthers included a number of side panels with “flat” areas for decaling, but I didn’t use them, I painted the appropriate portions of the “normal” panels with the same green I used on the main carbody, and with some decal solvent (I don’t remember which brand), the decals settled into the sides very nicely. And now the model. From what I gather, they had quite a few in this paint scheme.
