Please let me quote darianj… WOW! Man have you the space and the stuff to fill it with! You seem to have a lot of patience regarding trains, er how could you just get the equipment and not run it? I am working on my 5th layout and second in O/O27. To be honest I only completed about 2 of those previous 4 and that depends on your definition of complete. The size of yours is pretty daunting to me but there are a lot of folks here with similar sized and larger ones I’d bet. I am sure they will have great advice… and as a small timer I’ll offer that you should you try to build in some sort of phased approach so you can get something running around ASAP!
well i have a 3x8 n scale layout that i built for my nephew in the shed to mess around with. as far as patience i want my trains up and running, but i couldnt start anything until my got finished. trust as i bought every piece i want to take it out the box and put it to use right then, but i couldnt so that i one way that helped me to learn patience which i had trouble with as i was growing up. like i wanted it now instead of later. plus this is helping me with my layout i want to rush and put it together but if i wanted it to run and work right i need to be patient and take my time as to i need to remeber this project is not a one day project but rather almost a lifetime project. so in other words i need to be patient and figure what i want first. which i have a pretty good idea of what i want done. let me go take a picture of the n scale layout and post for you guys to show you what i get to play with now.
Looks like your well on your way to building your layout. It looks good you will have a very nice train room. your layout plan is great. I can’t tell if you plan on having access holes in your layout. I would strongly reccomend that you put some in if you didn’t plan on this. Other wise it will be very difficult to access derailed trains (This doesnt happen on my layout [(-D][(-D][(-D])or just build sceanery. A good access hole size is 18"X24" It can be larger or smaller depending on the space avalible and your preference
Hey Reggie,
Impressive lot you have there. My train room is about the same size, but we are keeping a Queen bed in it for guests. I think not having the layout up yet has made me more apt to purchase than if I spent my time running the trains. Anyway, like was mentioned, make sure you can get to every inch of track. You are a big guy so I think larger access holes would be good for you. You are off to a good start.

Reggie,
Before you start constructing the benchwork you might want to paint the ceiling and walls in the room. Also, think of any electrical or lighting needs you may have. Good-luck, look forward to seeing your progress.
wish you the best (please post progress photos). Personally, I wouldn’t risk doing this without doing a smaller layout. But go ahead the seize the day.
access holes i dont think i will need because the way the guy designed the layout all the rails are easily accessible at least thats what he told me. plus what makes you think im a big guy. like the compliment but im only 5’11" 190lbs. im not much bigger if i am bigger than you guys. you got to remember i played defensive back not defensive tackle but thanks for the advice on the holes i might have to put a couple just in case.
