Several Athearn RTR NACC 8K Beer Can Models arrived.
The two I show here are product numbers 89106 and 89105 for the NATX Roadname. They both carried a road number of 8274 and 8256.
I took them out of the box and set them onto the layout. All grab irons, brake parts, walkways are present. I found the cars to have a nice heft to them. I found all lettering readable and even the smallest of lettering requiring magnification was well done. Remind me to see eye doctor for new glasses soon.
I put the pair behind my BLI Switcher set. The tank cars came with a first for me. Shelf Couplers with the upper and lower extensions to prevent uncoupling on uneven track and also to prevent tank cars from being wrecked by any other car during train accidents. I have seen these on the prototype, but they are a first for me in model form. They mated to each other well and without error to my existing kadee 148 whiskers on the switcher and also to the mchenry on the heavy duty flatcar behind them.
They ran without flaw on my Kato Unitrack and through number 4 crossovers without problems. The extra heft given to these cars at the factory makes them run away on the slightest of inclines. I will have extra MOW track crews out soon to level some track that I thought was level.
These two cars are a welcome addition to the railroad. I dont know anything about what is commonly loaded into these cars and will need to do research to find out if I can carry Lube Oil in these little things; or something else during
