Hampton Inn…Mostly American Owned and Operated and consistent service no matter where I am. most will pick you up from train station…Worst Quality Inn-many are recycled holiday Inns in the NE who lost there certification…Even worse any of the big downtown hotels like Hilton or Marriott who charge you for everything including internet and breakfast…Its been years since I stayed in a Ritz Carlton but I had great service when I did…wont stay unless I am spending a night with my dream girl Martha Stewart.
I agree that Hamptons tend to be a uniformly pleasant experience and feature an above average breakfast buffet. . However, Hampton is a brand name of the Hilton chain. Other brand names of this hotel family are Doubletree, Embassy Suites and Waldorf Astoria.
Just to keep this train related, there is a brand found almost exclusively at Union Pacific crew change points – Oak Tree Inn. You can find them at such major metropolitan hot spots as Bill, WY, Marysviile KS or Missouri Valley IA. They feature amenities such as extra soundproofing and an attached 24 hour cafe.
And I would imagine, direct UP computer access for the crews.
Your dream girl is Matha Stewart? Ay-yi-yi…
Yes, but now it’s limited to what you can do on your own PC/mobile device.
Also security cameras, some with microphones, in common areas that can be accessed by Oak Tree or UP management.
Most Oak Trees have the diner, but not all locations do.

Here in my town, a UP crew change point, there isn’t an Oak Tree Inn. UP tends to use the Doubletree Inn here. Crews staying the night have free access to the YMCA across the street.
Regardless of where you stay, touch as little as possible. Studies have shown that even in the up scale places the TV remotes and phones are contaminated with fecal matter… The best I’ve found is Motel 6… way cheaper, and most rooms have double bolts on the doors to keep the bad guys out.

I guess that’s to keep out the lot lizards and other hanky panky.

If that it true it might be wise to bring a small supply of plastic bags to put things like a TV remote control in and also some antiseptic wipes for the telephone, door knobs and similar things. Except for a wake up call I use my own cell phone.
