My walthers tank car (Has pictures)

Well I have had this for awhile working onit every now and then but never ever getting close to finish. Well I decided why the heck not work on it today. I took it out of thebox and realized oh yeah thats right I lost the handrails for the front and rear of te car and I lost the wire for under the tank car let alone a bracket to hold the wire. So I did some bending of .012 round wire by Details west and made everything out of that. I think it looks ok. I will take comments even if they are negative. And I bet once painted primer grey and then black It wont even be noticable. I also know the hand rails need to be straighter.

Sonds like “pimp my fuel car” -except w/o that stupid punk/gangster/ghetto-ness

It is frustrating when you lose parts to a kit, but such a nice feeling when you’re able to go into “craftsman mode”, come up with a solution, and make it look good! That’s part of this hobby’s fun. [:)]

As far as an assembled car, it looks good! Don’t let the bent handrails bother you. Have you seen prototype freight cars up close? I’ve seen plenty (too many). Be assured that the amount of damaged or bent ladders, brackets, end frames, stirrups, hand rails, hatches, etc., is not small. [;)]

Looking forwad to seeing this car painted, decaled, and weathered.

What brand paint will you be applying?

Antonio,
thanks for the kind words. Luckily a friend of mine got me into making handrails, I also recently made a curved fan grab something I never did before. I have seen the prototype and realized they arent as pretty as the ones that come predone for modeling. Now you just made me not care about it not looking new thank you I stopped sweating about people laughing. As for paint believe it or not I’m using walmart brand primer, and the flat black by Walmart. Something thats just gonna be black I dont worry too much. Decals I will have to either get some car info and make them myself or buy some. With not going to a hobby shop I will be making my own. The Primer dried for a couple of hours and I just got done spraying it black letting it dry over night and then gonna clear coat it in the morning…

railroadnut675 yeah I should have pimpedit out more lol like actually make all brass hangers. And then did some funky design on it like waves lol.

My next attempt will be trying to make one out of brass one day.

Here it is after painted and dullcoated. All thats left is making the decals.

you might want to put a gloss coat of some kind before you decal the model.

Ditto…

thats what we should have on the website! “Pimp my Railcar” Instead of can you find the MR boxcar. Kevin

Mil,

One other note. Consider putting washes of rust, grime, or earth on the trucks and ends. Even when new, freight cars grime up rather quickly on the lower sides.

As before, this car’s looking good! [C):-)][tup]

Old threads never die…[:-^]

Nice, But I prefeer The older tankers with bigger extruded tank tops(caps) with

railings & access platform.

The modern tank tops looks as if someone just dug a hole up top

and put some cheap 12in pipe and just kinda stuffed it in there.

For some reason, I have keen attaction to tank cars, more than any other

rolling stock except for railroad repair Equipement/crane’s & such

Only if you use crappy decals. Glosscote is for car models!

Glosscote, decals, then dullcote (or semi-gloss if he wants to keep it kind of shiny). Even microscale recommends this process, and they don’t make crappy decals.
