Yea, and things like fairy gardens in the yards, and “she sheds”, and everything else she wants in your 1:1 house and yard, but can’t, and you’ll tell her “but honey, it’s 1954, I don’t think they had fairy gardens, she-sheds and the like.”
And she’ll answer, “but honey, is this not a personal fantasy world of semi-plausable nonsense? problem settled, I win. [:X] [swg]”.
She is actually a big proponent of realistic paint schemes. She does not care one bit for the DAWDLE & DELAY, UPP STAYERS & EASTERN, or the FUMBLE AND GRUMBLE.
My wife asked if she could help with the scenery when I get that far. I think it’s great. If that means deer too, I’m all for it plus any other critters.
If my wife asked if she could help with the scenery, I’d be worried, as she would likely be referring to the scenery outdoors, where her detailing ideas would be me, under the scenery.

The late Bob Reppert’s Dawdle & Delay was actually a very nice layout to operate on. But yes the name came from an earlier era when not only did most modelers create a name for their layout (to justify running a dog’s breakfast of all sorts of prototype locomotives and rolling stock) but there was a craze for funny or punny names. One of my favorites: playing off the real prototype Lackawanna, the “Lackawampum.”
So Kevin, I’m assuming that you were smart enough to buy the deer!?!
Seriously, having support from your wife is excellent. My wife supports my involvement in the hobby fully. She has clearly said that she is not interested in getting involved, but she has also indictated clearly that I can do what I want. I just bought a Rapido CP FP9A and two True Line CP freight cars and she thought that was fine.
