I used “Woodland Sceneic’s Realistic Water” to create a river on my layout. I made the mistake of placing a couple of empty jars on top of the “water” for several days, not realizing that while the “water” had been cured for a couple of YEARS, that the jars could leave indentations in the water.
I’m wondering if I should just pour a new layer of the “Realistic Water” over the whole river and whether that would cover up the problem areas. My other choice would be to skim-coat the whole river with joint compound, repaint the bottom color of the river and pour a new layer on top.
Has anybody tried to cover up problem areas with a new layer of “Realistic Water”?
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.
WS Realsitic water is always a fluid, although a very thick one, even in it’s “cured” state. If you don’t want indentations in it, don’t set things on it (except boats and the like, where this is a useful feature).
However, if you let it alone for about a week, the dents should disappear on their own. I’ve had this happen several times with water features on my son’s layout, because his matchbox cars always seem to end up in the water features…
To answer your question. I have added layers. No problems at all.
That being said, I don’t care for the product as it remains perpetually a bit soft and clouds up occasionally under high humidity. I much prefer envirotex lite and gloss medium. You could add a layer of gloss medium over the top of the WS stuff.
It retains some adhesive qualities too. I had a piece of cardstock land on my pond and it stuck! It also grabs hold of every dust particle and turns brown on top. Not happy with the stuff.
