My yard Idea

I’m still playing around with my yard design. I never thought it would be so hard to put one together. I have had many helpful tips from many of you modelers. The 2’ layout section is great idea but i personally like the 4’ x8 ’ section above the lower portion of the layout. I am using the full 4x8 bit only 2x8 section for the yard. and the 2x8 rear section will be for city buildings. I think this will be a great Idea. What do you think?

I still advise against the 4 ft reach. Building the city section will be a huge hassle. Every now and again, you will still need to reach back to the city area once it is built. The other thing is that having such a large city section will become very expensive, and would be better smaller with more of it represented through relief structures, backdrops, etc… I think you’ll be so focused on the yard when you operate, and won’t pay as much attention to the city you worked so hard to build. This would be even more true with the height you are building at. Best of luck.

Milwhiawatha,I strongly recommend a pop out section to gain access to the other side of your layout or better still and IF space permits leave a small isle-way between the wall and layout for access to the back side.

I personally dont see a problem with the 4 foot deep space. I feel as I have tested after I wrote the email (using a light piece of foam held up using various 2x4s" and duct tape that the height and length isnt bad at all,. As for the city I dont care about reaching it because of the city scener. Its basically gonna be rowhouse style/ apartments so no need to get to it. As is I have a 4x8’ engine facility down on the lower layout so it still would be hard to get to the yard if I did have derailments. So far I havent had any derailments. I solder every joint, I file that so its smooth, then on switched I file the points so they are smoother to. I have done some amazing things that so many told me couldnt be done so I am thinking this is the only route. I enjoy peoples feedback and comments and I value them, take them into consideration but sometimes its hard to explain and shoe online, even with pictures.
