MyLocoSound analog sound system

I have a live steam engine. The AML USRA 0-6-0 1/29 scale.

I want a sound system to run off some kind of battery to give me a Whistle and Bell sound. I have the chuff with an installed “bark box”
I would anticipate locating in a box car just behind the tender.

Please advise me.

After reading this review I looked at the manufactor’s site, I found that the review was on target except for how to activate the horn/wistle. A seperate controler is required and not offered by the manufactor. You must build one from a remote controled door bell. I found what seems to be a suitable battery operated door chime with six setable functions At Fry’s.com The cost is $15 plus shipping if you don’t live neatby. This keep’s the cost under $80.00 per unit with a limit of six.

@Dave - Also note that under straight track power, the duration of the whistle is limited to 1 second. This was not mentioned in the review, but is spelled out in the instructions. If you’re running the MyLocoSound board with a back-up battery, you can remove the jumpers from LK1 and LK2, and power the board solely off of that battery full time. That will give you “real time” control of the whistle. You’ll probably want something a bit more robust than a small 9-volt battery. A 7.4v rechargeable Li-Ion battery would be a good choice–it’s about the same size as the board, and will run it for quite a while between charges.

@ James - You can’t trigger the bell on this board with a remote trigger, you need a voltage signal. For your installation, I’d suggest the Hyde-Out Mountain sound system that’s reviewed in the October '10 issue. You can trigger the bell and whistle externally, and it’s also right around the same price. It runs off of 3 AA batteries.

I want to mount in a B’mann railtruck (diesel cause its mine) and can’t find a small 8 ohm speaker. The suggested folding ones for Ipod I can find are 4 ohm. Any suggestions, thanks Ted
