I will be modeling in N Gauge and using Peco code 80 flex as well as Peco turnouts.
My problem is I have an area that is odd. I need to do a U Shape style benchwork. The area I have is 9’ length and 2’ wide and go 5’ on the sides and that includes the 2’ width along the back and the sides can be no more then 3’ wide.
Does anyone have an idea on a track plan that would fit this area. It does not have to be proto type. I do have a large collection of Sante Fe and Union Pacific Locos and Freight cars that I would like to use. Also, how far apart should the joist be as I will be doing and open grid style benchwork.
Any Ideas would be of great help.

Yeah, your dimensions are a bit confusing. Sounds like maybe a 5 by 9 room? Almost everyone on this forum, as you may know, is super friendly, and we’d like to help. Please give us a description of the room again, or upload a drawing. In 5 by 9, you can have one heckuvan n scale pike.

I don’t know if you can be flexible with these dimensions.I can see that you’re planning a four feet deep portion on the left…four feet deep,unless you can go around it,is pretty far to work on either tracks or scenery.On the other side,you have two feet which could be enough.But if you salvage a foot from the left side,you could add it to the right side and still have your two foot aisle in the middle.You would then have twice 5X3 feet sectors and a 2X2 mid section for interconnecting tracks and some scenery.
As far as the track plan you could fit on this…there are more than one.But first you have to determine your allowed space,what type of operations you wi***o have (point to point,continuous running or else),what type of trains (passengers,freights,etc),and just as important,what are your skills.If you could pinpoint what type of industries,or towns or eras,that much more to permit us forum members to help you out.
