Norfolk Southern announced another 100 locomotives will be purchased in "04…Has anyone heard how many may be EMD SD70M’S? Last year the order was initially for 50 EMD’S which was cut back to 33 with the rest pushed back to a later date. Has anyone heard any specifics yet? Thanks…Dave Williams
Norfolk Southerns are starting to come down the line at EMD in london ontario. we are building 25 units right now we are not painting them they are being delivered in primer and they are SD70 macs the best unit in the world
NS is getting SD70MAC’s?..
This would explain the reason why I’ve been seeing so many UP SD70Ms mixed w/ NS Dash 9 consists on NS trackage in PA. NS is testing them out. At first I thought Up was going to take over or merge w/ NS. LOL

Are the NS SD70mac’s the flair version like the last bunch of CSX SD70mac’s? Do they have the newer more square cab nose, but still have the two cab windows?
How many UP SD70m’s are remaining to be built?

Wow, hold on a second.
NS bought 33 Phase 3 SD70M’s (not MAC’s) in 2003, they haven’t ordered any EMD’s since then.
NS ordered 15 ES40DC’s and C40-9W’s in the begining of this year, the final dozen C40-9W’s are being delivered. Expect NS to order more ES40DC’s in 2005.
NS is ordering 65 more C40-9W’s, usually NS orders 100 units, so SD70M’s might be on the way later this year.
