N&S in passenger business

Does anyone remember seeing an article about N&S being interested in getting into the passenger business…or any other class 1 for that matter.?

Who is N&S – did you mean NS?

Every Class I is interested in doing anything that turns an attractive profit over the long term. As long as someone (like a government agency) will commit to covering the inevitable shortfall at the fare box, cover the incurred liabiblity, and pay the capital costs to run the passenger trains without harm to the freight traffic (or compensate for the harm), Class Is are no different than any other business.

It’s not an ideology thing, you know, that keeps Class Is out of the passenger business. It’s a profit thing.

I understand that. I just want to know if an article was published and, if so, where. I’m getting second hand info and want to follow up. Thanks for the help.

I know there has been talk for quite a few years about NS helping out with starting a passenger rail express in Virginia. However there has been no real progress I’ve seen for the “Trans-Dominion Express.”

…Lutton: Go to Google and enter in: Trans-Dominion Express for some written info.

Take a look at www.drpt.state.va.us/projects/previous/bristol.aspx.

There has been talk about in Virginia about passenger service from Bristol/Roanoke to Richmond or Charlotteville/DC.

You might try Railway Age magazine. There was an article saying they were inyerested as long as they could be compensated for it.
