N scale Bachmann J?

After inheriting a rather large dining room table, I’m interested in putting up my old N scale layout that I had in a small apartment about 10 years ago (more like 15 I think). Back then, most N scale loco’s seemed like relative crap compared to HO. Since I was modeling N&W, one of my “crap” locos was a Bachmann J-class 4-8-4. It was complete JUNK! Now I see they offer a “Spectrum” version, which they say is completely re-tooled. Has anyone tried one of these? What can you say about it? The last N scale engine I bought, which I soon retired, as I moved to a much bigger home an switched back to HO, was a Proto Y3 2-8-8-2 that was GREAT. (wouldn’t pull much, though). So, what about the Spectrum J?

I thought about buying one, honestly modern bachmann locos and cars aren’t as bad as the rap they had from before my start in N scale. I have a Dash 8-40CW that is a spec. loco good runner. my older Life likes on the other hand, questionable. especially my F40 the powered one at least.

… this goes for steam locos of recent manufacture as well!

The newer locos made a step-up improvement in quality.

I’ve seen the newer N Scale J in action and IMHO it was just as good as their N 2-8-0.

This may sound stupid, but how good is that? and how did it LOOK? I’m not familiar with the performance record of the N 2-8-0

The bachmann spec j class is a fine loco. Can’t go wrong.

That sounds good. Looks like the best price I;ve found so far is $99.95 for just the engine, and $110.00 for the set with aux. tender. These sound like good prices? Oh, and THANKS for the info!

I have one and it’s a nice locomotive. $99 is a good price for the quality you get.
