I’ve been impressed with the amount of coverage given to center cab switchers on another board. What has surprised me is the the model companies have not followed up on this and introduced one yet. Several years ago one of the companies offered a 44 ton switcher in HO scale, but I have never seen one in N scale. Since my layout is a switching layout (actually an out back but with emphasis on switching) I would find one quite useful, as I’m sure would many others with switching layouts.
Otto,
Kato made a Japanese prototype center cab some years ago that is easy to doctor into an American looking engine. The neat thing is that it runs like a charm which is a plus for a switcher. You might find one on ebay.

There is an article about the just-mentioned n-scale Kato “Train Shorty B” at NCat Live Catenary and its conversion to a live overhead working traction model.
Otto,
I just noticed that the Kato center cab is available again and was advertised by Mokei Imports as a ‘DD13 switcher’ for $55.00. See the August issue of MR page 40 which also has a photo.
