Was wondering if anyone has built a CF7 in N scale? I think I’d like to, at least for my collection but most likely for operating (I"m growing quite fond of them) too. I have an Atlas GP9 with a mix of phase 2 and late phase 1 details as a starting point, but I can’t find dimensions or or anything of the cab. Could a modified standard spartan cab do?
I’ve often lamented the fact there is no CF7 available in N scale. I want one though, so I’ll be following this thread as well.
The prototype CF7 units were built out of old ‘F’ units by the ATSF. The cab design changed through the years and the early ones still have the angled window from the ‘F’ unit it started out as. Your could use the GP long hood, but the frame is special(note the fishbelly) and that cab may have to be scratch-built. I am sort of surprised that Atheran did not do it in N scale, as they re-did the old RPP shell in HO.

CF7’s are now in full production and shipping to the email interest list I’ve been collecting. Kits will be offered on a non-reserved basis once I get one pass through the interest list. See http://www.randgust.com/prod07.htm
Meanwhile, here’s a couple shots to convince you that they ‘do exist’…
To get on the list drop an email to cf7@randgust.com and I’ll send ordering information.
jnj made CF-7 shells many years ago; production was sporadic to say the least.
