N Scale Con-Cor Burlington Zephyr - comments?

I have the chance to pick up one of these hard-to-find sets from a pal. New in box, never run. I’m not much of a passenger service guy, but I think this would look cool “passing thru” …

I was hoping to hear from anyone who has one for a “review” and any comments.

Does it run well? I’ll be running it under DCC… The only one I’ve ever seen was on a modular layout at a train show.

Look passible on 11" curves ?? (I have a couple - trying to get rid of them).

Thanx,
Rick

In N scale, it might take 11 inch curves. The HO scale version required 18 or larger.

I have no experience at all with N scale, but if it is like the HO model, it will be DCC Ready and a smooth runner. The best thing about it is that every truck picks up current and the cars are electrically interconnected, so it is far less prone to flickering lights from dirty track and dirty wheels than other models.

Whether it is a good deal for you depends on the asking price. When they were first announced several years ago a fellow club member pre-ordered an HO one directly from Con-Cor, whose offices are in Tucson only 70 miles from us.

After waiting almost 6 months, the one he received went up in smoke after less than five minutes of run time. He took it to the Con-Cor offices and they replaced it.

He then drove down the street to a local hobby shop and saw six of them on the shelf for $200 less than what Con-Cor had charged for it. He was not a happy camper.
