My favourite diesel, but somehow I don’t think the real locos had 4½’’ ( or larger) handrails as depicted on the model, what are these people thinking???

I have several of these both U50C & U50D. They are Overland brass. They are the ugliest brute strength looking Loco’s out there. I love them. I contacted a friend of mine who has a few in N scale, he might know were to get the motor for you. I’ll let you know.

Here is the Con Cor part number and price.

thank you for all your help

Has anyone made a U50 in plastic?? or were the brass the only ones made (excluding n-scale)

I’m not a diesel fan but this locomotive actually looks like a locomotive rather than a metal container for a motor, by far my favourite diesel locomotive, AND, are there any of these still existing???

I don’t recall either the 50 or the 50C ever being produced in plastic in HO-Scale. A now long-lost-acquaintance of mine was an Onion Specific nut and he had three or four 50Cs; I don’t know why this crosses my mind but I thought that his were from Trains, Inc but they could well have been from Overland. The main thing I remember is that I wasn’t particularly impressed with the way they ran.

Someone–Jim Kelly from the MR staff I believe–did a conversion article for a U50C from Con-Cor’s standard U50. If memory serves me he repowered the thing to improve its performance. I ran into the article sometime last Spring before the summer heat forced me out of the non-AC environment in the Mobile Home next door;were anyone interested I could probably relocate it since it would be in one of my magazine boxes that are correctly labeled.
