N Scale Cork/HO Scale Track

I’ve been "lurking"for months and learning a lot from reading others posts, but have finally come up with a question of my own. My apologies to the “old timers” on this forum if this has come up before.

I’m thinking of using N scale cork roadbed under HO scale track for my industrial switching layout currently under construction. I know others have done this to get a lower profle for less heavily used track. Because of the width difference, I usually see an extra strip of cork placed between the two pieces of N scale cork, but I don’t want to go to the extra effort (unless I have to) of cutting this extra strip, making sure it is the same thickness as the N scale cork, etc.

Could I just fill the gap with extra ballast, or would this cause a lot of problems?

Anybody have any comments, or has anybody done anything similar. Thanks in advance.

Mike

Sure you could fill it with extra ballast. Or you could fill it with something less expensive and more convenient. I would be tempted to take a caulking gun and run a bead of latex caulk in the gap and then spread it out with a putty knife.

Thats what I was going to say![8D]
