n scale coupler conversion

For those of you that run n scale where do you get your micro train couplers and is it a difficult job to swap them out? Thanks Kirk

I get mine at the hobby store in Spencer,NC when I am up there. How hard it is just depends. For most freight cars you can just swap trucks, if you don’t mind truck mounted couplers. If you want body mounted couplers, just drill a hole and tap it with a 00-90 tap. But the hole has to be in the right place. Some of the conversions, like on passenger cars and cheaper locos, can be a challenge.

unfortunately there are no hobby stores anywhere where i live so I will have to shop online. I have nine cars so far that need to be changed. Kirk

Depending on the era you’re modelling, Microtrains has a truck/coupler style to meet your needs.

I’d recommend getting the ten pack, it’s cheaper in the end.

Most manufacturers products, Atlas, Intermountain and Delux Innovations can be swapped directly. If you have any Kato cars, you won’t be able to mount the Microtrains trucks without modification.

Go to Microtrains’ website and see what they offer, then visit Caboose Hobbies or one of the others to get what you need.
