I am wanting to put a decoder in a “decoder ready” locomotive which is a Atlas GP38-2. I am wondering if a decoder for just a GP38 will work in it? I have a MRC Tech 6 2.0 Sound Controller I am going to use as well, Would appreciate any information I could get on a good place to get decoders and who has the best selection. I feel like I am kind of a novice on the model RR world and just want to learn as much as I can and beg and borrow as much as I can.
Are you looking for a sound decoder or just a motion decoder?

I have a couple of Atlas GP 38’s and GP38-2’s. I used Digitrax decoders and all used the same decoder, specifically the DN163AO.
I use more than 37 mini gold Lenz decoder, they are small, powerful and extremely resistant and consistant in time.
They come whith or whithout harness.
