Just picked up the Bachmann Centennial set only for the locomotive.
Has anyone ever done any work on these locomotives? I’ve been thinking about getting a second one (although I really don’t want to buy another set) and making a semi-permanent coupled pair for coal drag use. Not sure if I’m too crazy about the chrome, so I thought I’d put 'em to a different use.
I seems to run fine outta the box, but I’m unsure of it’s drawbar pull and have no real way of testing it. I’m unfamiliar with how reliable these engines are. And if anyone has any pictures of an E60CP they’ve worked on and detailed, I’d appreciate the inspiration.
I got an old used one on ebay a while back for cheap, works good, but noisey as heck. My track is too rough and dirty, and I don’t have enough running cars right now to give you a good idea of performance, but If I can help in anyother way, let me know!
btw, what do you model that needs an E-60 on a coal drag? My free-lanced RR is electrified ST. Louis to NYC…
I freelance. I ain’t got no layout or nothing, just lots of ideas and projects that I persue when I can. Norfolk Southern does a pretty good job of keeping me occupied night and day…
I like the idea of a continuous coal loop like the Black Mesa & Lake Powell. [tup]
I can understand your desire to haul coal with an E-60… While Amtrak is the only owner of record of these beasties, mostly for hauling heavier Florida bound trains from The City, the realm of heavy electric freight motors has been completely overlooked in N scale, save for the upcoming GG-1 from Kato…
I’d love it if someone would do and E-33 or E-44 in N… I don’t have a need for one, but I sure have a lot of memories of them roaring… whirring, really, up the NEC and the Port Road. Frequently, coal was the lading of choice, as well…
That Velveeta Cheese box that makes up the E-60 should be pretty easy to add just about any paint scheme to, as well…
Yet another reason I want electric powered freight. I work up and down the Port Road daily and all the catenary poles are still standing. I’ve heard stories of the juice-jacks that ran up and down, I would love to see 'em, but sadly, electric power probably will never return…
