N scale handrails coming off locomotive

I had a earlier post about my new atlas gp38 loco jerking or surging when running in reverse and got a few good tips on what to check but I am also having problems with the side handrails not wanting to stay on or coming off easily. My question is what would be the best way to glue them so they stay put? acc, white glue

(Elmers glue),or Testors Canopy glue. As I stated before I’m new to N scale and I’m looking for something that will not show off my lack of skill gluing something this small. Thanks in advance, Wayne.

take a bit of plastic glue, place it on the handrail part that is inserted in the shell and voila it should stay put.

also welcome to N scale and the MRR forums, I forgot to say that last time.

Plastic cements work by melting a small amount of the plastic When it “drys” the parts are “welded” together. The hand rails are probably made of a type of plastic that is impervious to regular plastic cement… There is also the danger of damaging the paint, or even the plastic shell.

There are glues that are supposed to work on the material, but I do not recommended using them in this circumstance, in case you want to remove the handrails sometime. ACC glues might work but I do not recommend them for the same reason.

If the mounting holes are a little loose, white glue would probbaly partially fill them keeping the hand rails in place, but allow removal without damage, if desired. While still wet excess white glue can easily be wiped off .

Thank you! this sounds good to me. Wayne

Walthers’ “Goo” would work in small amounts. Also if you ever needed to remove the handrails, using Goo instead ACC would make that job easier.
