N scale Intermountain Locomotives

I bought an Intermountain SD40T-2 and an SD45T-2 and both have deep flanged wheels. The thing that Suprised me is that for such a top of the line company they still have the deep flanged wheels. The SD45T-2 is from the recent run(DMIR) and the SD40T-2 is from an older run(SP Speed Lettering). I kind of expected that the SD40T-2 would have had the pizza Cutters. but not the SD45T-2. I model NS, but these are 2 of my favorite Locos and I really don’t want to have to sideline them untill I get to a trainshow where I can run them on the club layout. I laid track with Atlas Code 55 and Code 55 turnouts. They have no Problem with the flex track. They run just fine untill they hit a frog in a turnout in which case they derail. Is there someone that makes replacement wheels for these? Do other Intermountain Locos come with these wheels?

Hello brother tunnel motor lover.

IM Tunnel Motors use Atlas SD-50 trucks. At least the SD-40T2 does I know for a fact as I own two. NWSL makes wheelsets for these.

I believe they come stock with pizza cutter flanges so they work on less than perfect track which is a problem with three axle trucks. They aren’t as blatant as older pizza cutters.

I’ve got a set of their FT’s. I hadn’t noticed the flanges being any larger than normal. They run on Atlas code 55 track without any issues.
