Well the other day I purchased a new nw2 from kato and installed the digitrax dn123k3 into the locomotive with no troubles. After test running the locomotive, everything seemed fine until I put the shell back onto the frame. After that the engine wouldn’t run and the lights wouldn’t work either. I pinpointed the trouble to be that the front of the board, when a small amount of pressure was applied, would cause the locomotive to not run. I was just wondering how to fix this problem.
Thanks
Heck I wish I had an answer for you I have the same issue with a SD40 .
It runs great until I put the shell back on and then nothing.
I had a similar problem with a Soundtraxx Tsunami in the tender of my HO K4 pacifc. When I pushed on the tender, the loco stoped and my DCC system tripped.
Turns out that one of the chips in the Tsunami was loose and when pressure was applied to a certain spot the chip would move and the thing would short. My reccomendation is to get a new decoder. Unfortionately for me, the decoder sat on the shelf for a couple months, and when I figured out what was going on, it was to late to get it fixed under warrenty. That was a hundred bucks down the drain!
Anyway, when the shell is off, try gently pushing on different spots on the decoder - a piece may be loose.
I had actually been playing with the board and pinpointed the problem and it is the front of the board with a small amount of pressure shuts the loco. The locomotive does not trip a short and the system does not trip and short. I’m clueless as what to do.
