N-scale LifeLike GP38

I have a LifeLike N-scale GP38 that ran well for a couple of years on our club layout. It is intermittent (not dirty wheels or track).

The body shell does not seem to be the “spread the body to clear the four tabs on the frame” construction.

Can this shell be removed to check the wiring and pickups?

I have a LL GP-38(Conrail 7941) that runs fine so far.The shell is indeed the “spread to clear tabs” type.If you look closely, you will see them on the outside, behind the guardrails. The front ones are just behind the cab and the rear ones about the same distance from the rear end. However, the shell being relatively short, you can’t spread it much but just enough to clear the tabs.Just gently pull the shell up while prying the sides out with a finger nail is enough.

When you do put it back together, be careful of the wires as they will sometimes get caught under the shell and they can break. Ypu also have to make sure the weights are in the right spot.
