N Scale Locomotive DCC/Sound

Can anyone give me a lead on a Santa Fe/BSNF locomotive with DCC and sound?

I had placed a preorder with Atlas for a loco back in January and they called today to tell me that they took too many orders and that they would return my check???

Any advice will be appreciated.

Sam

I discovered a few days ago that Broadway Limited now offers Precision Craft Models engines in N scale with DCC & Sound.A friend of mine purchased a pair of E7A’s and both run and sound great.I don’t know if they offer the particular model/roadname combo you’d like, but you’ll know by visiting BLI’s website.By the way, these are equipped with Loksound decoders.

Outside Athearn’s Big Boy’s and Challenger’s and those,I don’t know of other N scale offerings with factory installed decoders.

Most of Atlas’ new locos come equipped with decoders as an option, but not sound. Sound is still very much in its infancy in N scale, mainly due to the physical size constraints necessary for a speaker. You can make a speaker and baffle only so small before the sound begins to sound hollow and tinny.

I have seen folks put sound in N scale engines as small as a 4-4-0 and do a decent job thereof; however it’s still a very much do-it-yerself endeavor.
