Any help with this? I am building an N-Scale layout and an using Kato track. I have installed some of the Kato uncouplers but they will not uncouple either Micro-Trains or Atlas couples. I even took it to my local hobby shop. He tried it out and couldn’t get it to work either. He recommended that I try to bend the pins slightly towards the center so they will open the knuckle more for uncoupling. This seems like hit and miss. I messed around with a couple of cars for about an hour and still could not get them to work well. What gives? Shouldn’t these things work right from the package? Any help or ideas are appreciated. Thanks Rob
I am not aware that Kato has an uncoupler. I searched the Kato web site and did not find one listed.
How does the uncoupler operate? What does the uncoupler look like? A picture might help. The uncoupler for the MicroTrains/Accumates is a magnet that sits between the rails or under the track.
I did notice that some of their locomotive parts lists have a “revised” link which lists “Magnetic Knuckle Coupler” sets. (these are in addition to Rapido couplers and Kato’s “Semi-Automatic Knuckle”, ie dummy, couplers). These magnetic couplers look similar to the MicroTrains and Accumates and appear to operate in the same manner.
Kato does make a uncoupling track. I am going to go buy one myself today. I am also just starting in N scale using kato track and MT truucks/couplers (talgo trucks).
